Augmented reality, or AR, is a digital technology, which can induce changes in traveler's perception of their views about any particular place when seen through a specific device. Lots of graphics and important information are added to that particular place through an appropriate device. Normally, AR is experienced with help of a smartphone, iPad, or any other android or IOS device. It also helps the traveler to connect this with cameras and GPS trackers. AR is getting more and more famous in the travel and tourism industry.
AR technology actually in various ways will change traveler's experience:
- With AR, travelers are more encouraged to visit a site or place after heavy research
- AR is compatible with the wall maps placed in the hotel rooms and if a traveler look at that map through his smartphone, it will give extra information about that place
- The traveler may point their phone at any landmark or place to get their information including reviews, history, and some important facts. It will highly increase the travel experience and help tourists to find more details on that particular place.
- Augmented reality is related to Beacon technology and push notifications. It basically works via bluetooth. One example of this for the traveler is that he can use this technology to unlock his room door from a small distance. It also helps travelers to receive push notifications from the marketers of any place whenever they arrive at a particular location
- There are some gaming apps in AR, that can be used to provide more enjoyment and fun to their trip. Travelers are of different ages and these games are also suitable for all age groups including children, young ones, and older fellows
- The AR apps also helps travelers to decorate their rooms according to the way they want and they can also place virtual celebrities in their hotel room to get that amazing memorable experience
Overall, AR technology is very useful in the travel and tourism industry. It is pretty new but emerging and always progressing in various aspects.
